Teresa Torralba, co-Founder of the famed Filipinos Making Waves Festival and the first-ever Philippine Parade at Yonge Street in Toronto, Canada, delivered the Opening Remarks and a speech entitled "Strong Women. Strong Canada. Strong World" during the celebration of the 2010 International Women's Day held on March 3rd at the Harbourfront on Queens Quay. Teresa was the first and only Filipino speaker who was invited to represent the Filipino women at the annual event attended by the notable women in the community She boldly spoke about its history and what the Canadian government is doing to promote equality and recognition of Canadian women in the society.

SECRETARY ROMULO MEETS IAEA DIRECTOR GENERAL AMANO

Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto G. Romulo personally conveyed his congratulations to Ambassador Yukiya Amano on the latter’s assumption as International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General. During their meeting, the two officials agreed that the upcoming NPT Review Conference in May 2010, to be presided by the Philippines’ Ambassador Libran Cabactulan, would be critical in advancing a nuclear-free world and ultimately, peace. Secretary Romulo also reaffirmed the expanding role of the IAEA in world affairs and reiterated the Philippines’ earlier invitation for the Director General to visit Manila this year.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo pins the United Nations service medal to a member of the 1st Philippine Peacekeeping Contingent to the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) during ceremonies at the Golan Heights on Friday, 5 March 2010. Secretary Romulo, who is also chair of the government’s Interagency Council on UN Peacekeeping Operations, was the guest of honor during the medal pinning ceremonies for the 342-strong Filipino contingent. In his speech, Secretary Romulo commended the Philippine Contingent led by Col. Milfredo Melegrito, for contributing to the peace efforts in the Middle East.
