The Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), the country's biggest and oldest organization of performing artists, will hold its General Assembly and elections for Board of Directors on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Pilita Corrales' HOME Resto at 8 Twin Hill Street, New Manila, Quezon City.
Mitch Valdes, incumbent OPM president, said that professional solo singers, bands and choirs have until March 24, 2010 to apply for or renew membership to become eligible to vote and be elected into its Board of Directors.
The rest of OPM's current Board of Directors include Audie Gemora, vice president; Pnky Marquez, secretary-treasurer; and directors Vicky Salvador, Dyords Javier and Danny Javier. Past presidents Celeste Legaspi and Jim Paredes also function as ex-officio members of the Board. Its Secretariat is headed by Elmar Beltran Ingles as executive director.
Established on October 27, 1986. OPM is the only artists' organization accredited by the United Nations Department of Public Information in the entire Asia-Pacific region. It is a non-stock, non-profit corporation duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Its objectives include advocating policies for the growth of the music industry; ensuring support, legal assistance and professional enhancement for members; promoting patronage of local singers and original Filipino musical compositions; and continuing promotion for recognition and protection of the Filipino music and singers in the international arena.
Among OPM's recent program initiatives are the Kaya Natin Ito Concert held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds featuring over 50 artists raising funds for the Typhoon Ondoy victims, an ongoing campaign for performers' intellectual property rights, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bureau of Immigration and the Asosasyon ng Musikong Pilipino for Performers' Equity Program.
Membership details and application forms may be accessed at the OPM website http://opm.org.ph/membership.html. For enquiries, contact the OPM Secretariat at 721729 or through email opmsingers@gmail.com.
